Mini Series Become a New Battlefield for China's "Double 11": E-commerce and Content Platforms Compete for a New Arena
As traditional e-commerce reaches its traffic limits and customer acquisition costs rise, mini series have emerged as a "new entry point for user attention." During this year's "Double 11" shopping festival, mini series—which seamlessly combine brand marketing, user engagement, and purchase conversion—have become a major focus of investment for both e-commerce and content platforms, sparking a growing trend of "mini series + e-commerce" integration. E-commerce platforms are increasingly incorporating mini series into their business strategies to overcome growth bottlenecks and capture new traffic.
Chen Liteng, an analyst at the E-commerce Research Center of the Internet Economy Society, explained that with traffic growth slowing and user acquisition costs escalating, platforms are turning to mini series as a viable solution. As a new way to capture user attention, mini series can increase average daily viewing time and drive consumption through tailored branded content and scene-based product placement. "Mini series are no longer just entertainment; they have become a comprehensive commercial medium that integrates brand marketing, user engagement, and purchase conversion. The key competition among platforms now centers on capturing user attention and maximizing screen time."

China's First National Mini Series Script Creation Competition Concludes, Jinhua Launches "Mini Series+" Action Plan
On November 2, China's first National Mini Series Script Creation Competition concluded. Adopting a model of "professional collaboration + targeted dissemination + media coverage + cultural exploration," the competition attracted over 3.5 million participants, engaged 85 leading script studios and production companies, 266 freelance screenwriters, and 21 key universities, drawing extensive participation from young creators and generating significant impact. After preliminary selection and final evaluation by experts, two works won the first prize: Wu Jv Nv Wang:Wo De Jv Tuan Bu Dao Bi (Wu Opera Queen: My Troupe Will Not Fail) and Yan Huo Ke Qin (The Warmth of Everyday Life).
Leveraging the momentum from this competition, Jinhua will fully implement the "Mini Series+" Action Plan, aiming to expand the industry across the entire production chain from scriptwriting and post-production to IP adaptation. The plan aims to build a multi-driven development mechanism, further elevate the high-quality growth of Hengdian's film and television sector, and strive to create a national hub for exporting online series, enabling China's "new trio of cultural products" to set sail globally.
Government and Enterprises Join Forces: Jiangsu's "Little Drama Masters" Take Root in Pukou
In recent years, Nanjing's Pukou District has introduced the "Golden Six Measures" for supporting online mini series development, providing end-to-end assistance for enterprises from script creation to broadcast. The Nanjing Online Mini Series Integrated Service Center and the Online Mini Series Content Service Platform offer "one-on-one" services, enabling location coordination and filing procedures to be completed in a seamless, "one-stop" manner.
During the National Day holiday, two distinctive mini series began filming simultaneously. One, based on the Kan Jian Yin Shang (This is the Shang) exhibition at the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing, brings cultural and museum resources into mini series, allowing stories behind cultural relics to reach a wider audience. The other, Cu Jv Feng Yun (The Rise of Cujv), focuses on the theme of Jiangsu's "Jiangsu City Football League", combining film and television with sports to preserve the culture of Cujv (ancient Chinese football) and the spirit of athleticism.
