Hundreds of Scenes Brought to Life Inside One Building: The Rapid Integration of Xi'an's Mini Series Industry Ecosystem

The Fuxi AI Film and Television Center, located in the Xi'an High-Tech Industries Development Zone, is a modern production base that began operations in March of this year. Spanning over 30,000 square meters, it is often dubbed Xi'an's "mini Hengdian."

"Most mini series are filmed in relatively remote locations—such as abandoned villas or factories. By establishing our production base in an office building, we're able to offer a more comfortable filming environment, improve working conditions for the crew, and significantly enhance production efficiency," said Li Xiaojin, head of the Fuxi AI Film and Television Center.

From equipment to costumes, and props to makeup and catering, all the core needs of a film crew can be met on-site. And this is just the beginning. The Fuxi AI Film and Television Center is actively exploring new models of film and television production. By introducing AI technology, it aims to build a full-industry-chain platform encompassing script development, filming, post-production, and distribution.

"Location changes often represent a significant hidden cost for film crews. In typical productions, the expenses for transportation, accommodation, and time lost during location shifts can be staggering," Li Xiaojin told reporters. "Our base can accommodate approximately 40% to 60% of the scene requirements for a drama." From ICU wards to CEO offices, and from school classrooms to hotel rooms, the crew can film all scenes in one location simply by taking the elevator up or down within the building.

The development and operation of the Fuxi AI Film and Television Center exemplify the flourishing growth of the mini series industry in Xi'an. According to the China Mini Series Industry Development White Paper (2024), Xi'an is the birthplace of 60% of all mini series produced in China. This solidifies Xi'an's status as the acknowledged "Capital of Mini Series."
